Welcome to our next installment of our Vendor Spotlight! We share a curated collection of the most gifted artisans in the industry. From breathtaking venues to visionary photographers, sumptuous caterers to exquisite calligraphers, and beyond – we leave no stone unturned in our quest to spotlight the crème de la crème of wedding perfection.
We’re thrilled to introduce a gem who holds a special place in our hearts—Leah Richardson of Selah Films! This phenomenal cinematographer captivates us every time her exquisite work graces our screens, especially when it’s an enchanting wedding video of one of our beloved clients. Having collaborated on several weddings and shoots, and with more delightful projects on the horizon this season, I can attest both as a peer and as an ardent admirer: Leah is truly remarkable.
Leah: My husband and I recently bought our first home in Berwick, Maine! Exciting home improvements to come! My 4-year-old daughter, Myla, is my little mini-me and makes me so happy. We love spending Sundays with extended family and traveling in our RV in the winter to warmer weather! I’ve been filming since I was 18 years old, and have owned Selah Films for over 10 years. At Selah Films, we produce cinematic wedding films and our goal is to artistically capture the heart of each couple’s day. I’ve had the joy and honor of telling the love stories of over one hundred wonderful couples!
Leah: My ideal client is anyone who comes to me with an excitement and appreciation for cinematography. They share a love for connection, emotion, and movement that makes their story uniquely them—as well as valuing the audio we capture during the day of them, their close family, and friends—and treasuring that story for generations.
Leah: As soon as I connect with a wedding client, I learn all about what’s most important to them and we get to know each other to make sure we’re a great fit. When the wedding day arrives, the only thing for the couple to focus on is themselves and their love, soaking up every moment while our team arrives with cameras in hand, ready to capture it all!
Leah: My style is between cinematic and documentary. I believe they both have their place together. I want to see the bride’s dress twirling in slow motion but at the same time hear “My sweet daughter is getting married today and I couldn’t be more proud” from the father’s two-minute interview. As a creative, my goal is simply to make people feel. Pulling them into the experience and making that emotional connection.
Leah: Above all, music lights my creative fire. As a dancer, I picture myself dancing to certain music I like. I do the same with video, I hear something and envision a certain creative shot and if it sticks with me long enough I have to make the vision come to life. Passion projects and styled shoots are life-giving!
Leah: My first step in the creative process is connecting with couples to learn about what is most important to them and their vision. This is the heart of creating something truly unique and memorable. When the wedding day arrives, my goal is to artistically film formal ceremonies as well as the candid moments that may otherwise slip by. In my eyes, the most powerful memories can be drawn from those smallest details. I aim to be discreet but always present—documenting the day with a thoughtful eye and capturing the wedding story as it unfolds naturally. After the wedding day, I spend time creating a timeless, meaningful memory that couples and loved ones can cherish. I want it to feel like truly re-living the emotional experience of the day from beginning to end.
Leah: Nightly chat with my husband sharing about how our day went while eating some kind of Italian food with the fireplace on followed with our favorite show. Which is currently “Suits.”
Leah: Well…I am a hip hop dance teacher very part time and I have a passion for movement and for teaching kids the love of dance. I would choose to be a choreographer for my career, preferably for top artists as well as start a nationwide dance program for teens that can join for free to express themselves in a safe environment.
