Dayane and Collin met while both were studying entomology. Collin asked Dayane to translate a research paper written in Portuguese. As he told Martha Stewart, “A strange way to break the ice, no doubt, but after about a week, we went on our first date, and the rest is history.”

Dayane is from Brazil, and after she and Collin had dated for four years, she asked him to accompany her on a trip back home. While there, he popped the question with an antique gold ring! These two have the sweetest story, and I was so excited when they asked me to plan their backyard wedding in New Hampshire.

Nature-Themed Wedding Day Details

Dayane and Collin love spending time outdoors, so they wanted their wedding-day theme to incorporate insects and plant life. Their stationery artist, Alicia Moran Invitations, created clean and minimal programs for their ceremony, illustrated with a large tropical leaf. Meanwhile, the couple collected and pinned unique insects to gift as guest favors. Butterfly specimens filled the drawers of an antique desk at their reception while each guest’s personalized favor waited underneath. Even their cake by Autumn Nomad featured 3-D leaves and watercolor butterflies!

In addition, the couple’s florals were tropical-inspired to reflect Dayane’s Brazilian heritage. Lotus Floral Designs filled the bride’s bouquet with a mix of garden roses, orchids, and king protea. Blue and yellow ribbons cascaded from the base—the two colors at the center of the Brazilian flag! The couple’s dessert table also featured an array of tropical blooms. Lush palm branches draped over the front of the antique sideboard while king protea added a splash of hot pink.

Tented Reception at a Backyard Wedding in New Hampshire

The couple’s tribute to the natural world continued at their tented reception in the backyard of Collin’s parents’ home. Bud vases with stems of tropical leaves and dusty blue tapers lined wooden farm tables in an understated take on the wedding-day theme. Meanwhile, white gauze table runners and gold-rimmed chargers elevated the design. The result was classic and elegant but still so unique to Dayane and Collin!
