How We Design Weddings: Falling in Love With Your Story First
When it comes to wedding design, we don’t start with the traditional “what’s your color palette?” conversation. Instead, we start with what you love.
What artwork moves you? What music do you put on when you’re happiest? What’s your favorite store to wander through, or your go-to outfit on a day you feel most yourself? We might even ask you to show us a photo of your living room—or even your bedding! (Yes, your bedding. It’s such a fun way to get a glimpse into your true style.)
For us, designing your wedding isn’t about matching napkins to flowers right out of the gate—it’s about capturing the feeling of who you are together.
We believe weddings come together not by forcing a theme but by gathering the pieces you love and then thoughtfully shaping them into something cohesive. It’s a process of pushing, pulling, changing, and refining. It doesn’t all “click” immediately—and honestly, that’s the beauty of it.
Once we find your core—your loves, your vibe, your story—then we start translating that into a color palette, a monogram, a drawing, or a bigger vision. From there, we brainstorm florals, stationery, clothing, and even the hard and soft furnishings that will make your wedding environment feel true to you.
But it’s not just about style—we also layer in the practical side: the season, the venue, the availability of rentals, the number of guests, and of course, the ever-present budget. These real-world factors shape the design too. A wedding in the fall in the mountains, for example, will naturally feel very different from a summer seaside celebration, and we love letting the time of year and setting inspire the final details.
Most of our couples don’t come to us with a fully formed vision—and that’s perfectly okay. It’s our job to help guide you toward what feels right.
Take Courtney and Nathan, for example.
They came to us with just one image they loved—just one! From that little spark, we built a warm, welcoming design that celebrated their love story and the stunning setting: Peckett’s on Sugar Hill in the glorious New Hampshire mountains, during the most magical time of year—fall.
We started with the bones: rentals from Peak, a gorgeous clear top tent from Sperry, and the perfect autumn-toned linens from BBJ La Tavola. Let’s Pretend Catering and Autumn Nomad crafted a food and beverage experience that fit the season and the style.
Florals by EH Floral captured the texture and richness of the fall landscape, and Els Cards created custom stationery that felt like a natural extension of Courtney and Nathan’s personal style.
Was the weather perfect? Nope—this is New England, after all!
But the cozy atmosphere inside the tent, filled with laughter, dancing, and pure joy, made it absolutely unforgettable. Every heartfelt moment was captured beautifully by Kate Preftakes Photography.
That’s what wedding design is about—not chasing “perfect,” but creating an experience that feels perfectly you.
