Mary and Chris were married in the heart of Portsmouth, a city known for its historic charm, walkable streets, and vibrant energy. Their wedding day captured all of that beautifully, combining history, music, and celebration in a way that felt joyful and full of life.
This was the second wedding we’ve had the honor of planning for this family, which made the experience especially meaningful. Because of that connection, the day felt not only well planned but deeply personal. Mary and Chris were a delight to work with, and it was truly a joy to help bring their vision to life.
The ceremony took place at Strawbery Banke Museum, one of Portsmouth’s most beloved historic sites. Set among preserved buildings and lush gardens, the museum offers a quiet and intimate setting that feels worlds away while still being right in the middle of town.
Mary and Chris exchanged vows in the garden, surrounded by family, friends, and history. Music for the ceremony was provided by Vintage Strings, whose sound added a soft, romantic layer to the moment. The ceremony felt sweet, heartfelt, and perfectly suited to the setting.
After the ceremony, the celebration took to the streets. Guests joined Mary and Chris for a second line procession through downtown Portsmouth, parading together toward the reception venue. This joyful walk through the city highlighted everything that makes Portsmouth special, its historic architecture, lively atmosphere, and strong sense of community.
The second line ended at Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club, one of the city’s most fun and energetic venues.
Cocktail hour began downstairs in Jimmy’s art gallery, where guests mingled, enjoyed drinks, and took in the creative surroundings. Then, just as the energy began to build, musicians led a second line from the gallery up the stairs and into the main reception space. Guests followed the music, filling the room with excitement as they made their way upstairs together.
Once inside, the evening unfolded into dinner and dancing. The space at Jimmy’s Jazz Club created an incredible atmosphere, intimate yet high-energy, with music at the center of it all.
The dance floor stayed full thanks to Groove Authority, who kept the party going and matched the joyful spirit of the crowd perfectly. Throughout the night, Mary and Chris laughed, danced, and celebrated alongside their favorite people.
Hair for the day was styled by Salt Salon, allowing Mary to feel polished and relaxed from the start. Every moment was beautifully captured by Elizabeth Bedell, whose photographs reflect both the emotion of the day and the character of the setting.
Mary and Chris’s Portsmouth wedding felt like a perfect reflection of who they are. Historic yet playful. Thoughtful yet full of energy. From the garden ceremony at Strawberry Banke to dancing the night away at Jimmy’s Jazz Club, the day flowed effortlessly and with intention.
Being part of this celebration, and of this family’s story, was truly special. It was a joy to watch Mary and Chris begin their next chapter surrounded by so much love, music, and celebration.
